Who is responsible for your information
Morag Simpson, trading as Simpson Singing School, is the data controller for personal information used to provide singing, piano and choir tuition.

Information we may collect
- Your name, email address, telephone number and postal address.
- A pupil’s name, age, parent or guardian details and emergency contact details.
- Lesson, choir, attendance, progress, payment and correspondence records.
- Information you choose to provide about accessibility, health or support needs where it is relevant to safe and appropriate tuition.
- Photographs, recordings or testimonials only where appropriate permission has been obtained.
How information is collected
Information is provided directly by pupils, parents or guardians when making an enquiry, booking tuition, attending a lesson or choir, making a payment, or corresponding with Morag.
The website enquiry form does not send information to a website database. It prepares a message and opens your own email application. The website itself does not retain the form contents.
Why information is used
Enquiries, bookings and tuition
Information is used to respond to enquiries, arrange lessons and choirs, provide tuition, communicate about sessions and take payment. The lawful basis is taking steps before entering into a contract and performing a contract.
Administration and records
Information may be used to manage the school, maintain appropriate pupil records, recover payments and improve services. The lawful basis is legitimate interests in operating a safe and effective teaching practice.
Legal and safeguarding duties
Information may be processed where necessary to meet tax, accounting, insurance or safeguarding obligations. The lawful basis is compliance with a legal obligation or legitimate interests. Where special category information is needed, it will be handled with additional care and an appropriate condition such as explicit consent or safeguarding of children and individuals at risk.
Optional publicity
Consent will be requested before using an identifiable pupil photograph, recording or attributed testimonial for publicity. Consent can be withdrawn at any time.
Children’s information
Many pupils are children. Information about a child is collected from, or with the knowledge of, a parent or guardian where appropriate. It is used only as needed to provide tuition, communicate with the family and support the child’s safety and progress.
Who information may be shared with
Personal information is not sold. It may be shared only where necessary with:
- Service providers supporting email, secure storage, accounting or payment administration.
- Professional advisers, insurers or examining bodies where relevant.
- Emergency services, local authorities, regulators or safeguarding agencies where required by law or necessary to protect someone.
Some service providers may process information outside the UK. Where this happens, reasonable steps are taken to ensure a lawful transfer mechanism and suitable safeguards are in place.
How long information is kept
- Unsuccessful or one-off enquiries are normally deleted within 12 months.
- Core pupil and booking records are normally kept for up to six years after tuition ends where needed for legal, insurance or dispute purposes.
- Financial and tax records are kept for the period required by law, normally up to six years.
- Safeguarding records may be retained for longer where required by safeguarding guidance or legal obligations.
Information is securely deleted or destroyed when it is no longer needed.
Your data protection rights
Depending on the circumstances, you may have the right to ask for access to your information, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or to object to its use. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time.

Security and complaints
Reasonable organisational and technical measures are used to protect personal information against loss, misuse, unauthorised access or disclosure.
